In March 2017, Assemblyman Angelo J. Morinello (R,C,I,Ref-Niagara Falls) introduced a bill to eliminate daylight savings time in New York state.

It was referred to committee and has remained there.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) has been used for more best replica watches than 100 years. Federal law allows states to opt out of daylight savings time.

In a press release Morinello stated, “Due to daylight savings, Americans lose around 40 minutes of sleep on the night after the time shift. This sleep deficiency can result in less productivity and can cost the economy up to $434 million a year.”

The time change also has a negative effect on patients who take a scheduled medication.

“When you look at the health effects, it’s clear that daylight savings causes more problems than benefits to state residents,” said Morinello. “Each time we face a time shift, I have constituents reaching out to me with complaints about their mental and physical health. Studies have shown the detrimental effects caused by daylight savings, so it’s time that the Legislature acts on this important issue. I was deeply disappointed by the lack of progress this bill made last year and I hope it will move forward to a floor vote this year.”

According to published reports on daylight savings:

Pro: Longer Evenings

Proponents of DST argue that longer evenings motivate people to get out of the house. The extra hour of daylight can be used for outdoor recreation like golf, soccer, baseball, running, etc. That way, DST may counteract the sedative lifestyle of modern living.
The tourism industry profits from brighter evenings. Longer nights give people more time to go shopping, to restaurants, or other events, boosting the local economy.

Con: Can Make People Sick
Changing the time by 1 hour, disrupts circadian rhythm. For most people, the resulting tiredness is an inconvenience. For some, the time change can have serious consequences.

Studies link lack of sleep at the start of DST to car accidents, workplace injuries, suicide, and miscarriages.
Early evening darkness after the end of the DST period is linked to depression.
The risk of suffering a heart attack is increased when DST begins. However, the extra hour of sleep at the end of DST has been linked to fewer heart attacks.

Safety is a good argument for keeping DST.
Studies found that DST contributes to road safety by reducing pedestrian fatalities by 13% during dawn and dusk.

Another study found a 7% decrease in robberies following the shift to DST.
